Labour MP Lisa Nandy: Boris Johnson eroded trust in politics over Covid
We don’t know how the general election will turn out. But Lisa Nandy will likely play a significant role in British politics over the next decade.
One of the few northern MPs to retain her seat as Labour’s Red Wall crumbled in 2019, she argued that the party needed to “change or die” when she stood to be leader. She has since outlined how Britain could rethink its domestic and global agenda for the modern age in her book All In. With geopolitics increasingly affecting domestic politics, her work as Shadow Minister for International Development is helping to shape Labour’s new message.
Watch an evening with Lisa Nandy as we reflect on her political career, how Britain can heal the post-Bre...

Lisa Nandy is a Brexiteer and hence I find it hard to take her seriously on her complaint about the difficulties people in her constituency are going through, if Brexit has proven to slash 4% of growth for many years to come. Lisa Nandy is a Corbynista who puts her own believes above the wellbeing of her constituents. Not exactly what the UK needs right now.

I think most people now understand that a tax cut is likely to put tuppence happeney in their pockets but take billions out of the exchequer. Do people really want that extra few bob but to wait hours in A&E, wait years for a routine operation, spin the wheel of fortune everytime they try and catch a train or see their kids in classrooms with Acro-props?

The results of the local elections in England indicate a Labour majority government or a Labour Liberal Democrats coalition and with the splintering of the Conservatives into two English Nationalist factions It wiil be interesting to see the results of elections in Scotland and Northern Ireland in a couple of years time, and whether these results will begin the dissolution of the United Kingdom .

Entering the EU reduced the size of the UK government. Now they have to go back in time, to measure their world. There were benefits in the EU, namely regulation spread over a greater number. The economy of scale. Now the UK must regress, and pay the price.

That people are sick of Tories but not convinced by Labour so apathy wins overall? I’m not sure this situation can truly be considered democratic, certainly far from optimal and anyone who doesn’t take the time to ponder what will fill the void the longer this continues is in for a nasty shock.

The increased demands placed on the UK government as a direct and natural consequence of Brexit in the form of increased regulatory requirements, agricultural and fishing support, customs checks and immigration controls represent a contradiction of the anti-collectivist preference for a smaller state. Even with increased authority within that smaller arc of activities, the ideological drive to reduce taxes can only be sustained by lowering staffing levels in the civil service, the emergency services or the armed forces.
